River Readers
Our History

River Readers first met in March of 2002, having formed so those of us reading AHAB'S WIFE could get together and discuss
the book. We then all read THE RED TENT, so continued... and haven't stopped yet! We hold up those who were with us and have died, feeling their contributions to our discussions in many ways: Sue Dickerson, André Gioi, Bobbi Drobeck, Mimi Loeb, and our dear Martin Hilby, who forced us to rethink and expand our choices and did the most extensive research ever to lead our discussion of Mark Twain's HUCKLEBERRY FINN. Who knew there was so much to that classic?
Annually, this group votes on a reading list for the year. Using the reading list distributed each fall, we meet at 7 p.m. the 4th Thursday, 8 months of the year with some, but rare, exceptions. We also occasionally take 'field trips' -- e.g. movies of books read, dinner outings.
